my experience

This page contains leadership experiences that I’ve had at NSA, along with leadership experiences outside of NSA.

I started student leadership at NSA when I was in 6th grade (since ES and MS students were able to be student volunteers). I was on the Welcome Committee and Student Advisory Committee (a hand picked group of students who specifically helped Student Council) from 6th-9th grade. In 10th grade, I joined Student Council as a Welcome Committee Leader. I’ve been a part of the National Honors Society, and have  started new groups for volunteers (the tutoring team at NSA and a surf club in my community). This past year, I have been the Secretary, which has been a joy and has taught me more than I could have asked or imagined. Throughout my time at NSA, I have been a part of many event committees along with leading some, like the Christmas Card Exchange.

When I was 14, my mom and I started our own business (since I was technically not able to start my own official business while being under 16). The business has been going for almost 2 years, and has made more than $5,000 in profit. We’ve hired other people and have been able maintain the business.

what do others say?

Accountability

Lydia Novak – “Maia is one of the hardest-working people I know. Her time-management skills are incredible and she always takes the initiative in projects. If you ask her to do something, it will be done well and on time! She works fast and efficiently but also knows how to set healthy leadership boundaries. She has had experience in leading other leaders, which will be a necessary part of being StuCo President.”

Thomas (Blake) Crosby – “I think Maia would be an excellent president due to her work ethic, social personality, and experience at NorthStar Academy. Maia is always on top of her course work, student council work, and extracurricular work in a balance manner.”

Adelyn Pendley – “As president, I know Maia can continually help in transforming the NSA community into an open, fun, and iNSAne place for all students.“

Hannah Robbins – “She would make sure to try her best and I’ve found that her best is above and beyond what is needed. She is very trustworthy, helpful, loyal, friendly, kind, cheerful, and caring.”

Organization

Gabriel (Gabe) Nelson – “From my discussions with her, and five years of us being friends, she knows what can and should be done, and will not be afraid to do it.”

Annemarie Fitzwater – “Everything I’ve worked with her on she has an incredibly neat google doc to go with it that has all the information I need. “

Understanding

Thomas (Blake) Crosby – “She constantly makes sure that student council runs smoothly and efficiently.”

Annemarie Fitzwater – “She get’s everything done in a timely manner. Anything I’ve asked for help with or needed her to do, she has done it not only efficiently, but also, it’s a job well done!“

Tiana Dean – ”She is welcoming to everyone and is the kind of person you would want to lead your student body.”

Thomas (Blake) Crosby – “I in particular know that I could always ask Maia for any questions about NorthStar when needed. If she couldn’t answer the question for me, she knew who I could talk to.”

Adelyn Pendley – “Whenever I had questions she would answer them for me she encourages me to do the things I want to do.”

Maxence (Max) Herbreteau – “With her as a leader I have seen the tutoring team go from students barely knowing about it, to students constantly asking for help and coming back.”

Tiana Dean – “She knows the ins and outs of NSA and has seen a lot of the kind of problems we have encountered with StuCo.”

Experience

Thien-Nhu (Estella) Nguyen – “She has a strong work ethic which is evident through her academic and athletic accomplishments as well in areas in her community. Having seen Maia in action as WCL and Secretary these past few years, I can’t imagine a better person to be the next StuCo president.”

Brooklyn Crosby – “She’s a hard worker and always shows up to meetings on time and with a plan of what she wants to cover or have done.”

Thomas (Blake) Crosby – “Finally, Maia is extremely familiar with the online campus. She has the experience in her tool belt to best represent NorthStar as a whole. “

Thien-An (Evelyn) Nguyen – “Her previous experiences as WCL and Secretary will serve her well in the role of StuCo president.”

Michaela O’Halloran – “Maia has plenty of experience on Student Council and completes her work with excellency.”

Gabriel (Gabe) Nelson – “She has numerous StuCo positions already under her experience belt and has also been praised in said positions for doing a good job. She is a long time NSAer, and because she’s been through a thing or two in this school, she knows a thing or two that someone might not.”

Maxence (Max) Herbreteau – “Maia has demonstrated great leadership as she is on top of her work and gets it done.”
