Support Maia to Revive the Reef

Restoring and researching coral reef damage in Thailand.

Our Oceans Are in Trouble

Across the world, coral reefs – the “rainforests of the sea” – are dying. Rising ocean temperatures have caused mass bleaching events, leaving once-vibrant coral reefs pale and lifeless.

Over 50% of coral reefs globally have already been lost, and scientists warn that over 90% of all coral could disappear by 2050 if urgent action isn’t taken.

But hope isn’t lost. Around Koh Tao, Thailand, restoration teams have seen 70-75% survival rates in transplanted coral. Together, we can be part of that recovery.

about me

Hi, I’m Maia Coyle, a scuba diver, ocean lover, and soon-to-be Georgia Tech student. The ocean has always been my favorite place in the world – wherever I go, I always find my way back to the water.

Living in Virginia Beach, I’ve seen the effects of warming oceans firsthand: familiar species disappearing, fish populations shifting, and even sharks and alligators migrating north from states like Florida and South Carolina.

Ocean health is essential to life itself; it produces over half of the world’s oxygen, supports millions of species, and keeps our climate stable. That’s why I’m dedicating my gap year to learning how to heal what’s been hurt.

Through the Coral Renewal Internship with The Coral Tribe in Koh Tao, Thailand, I’ll help restore reefs by studying coral recovery and replanting coral fragments that bring life back to damaged ecosystems.

The full cost of the internship, including training, food, accommodation, materials, and flights, is $8,000. My goal is to raise $4,000, and I’ve covered the other half through my own savings and work.

This isn’t just about funding a trip: it’s about funding a future.
If I don’t go, that’s one less diver helping restore coral health.
But if I do, if we go together, we can help coral reefs survive, recover, and flourish again.

Let’s make the ocean bloom with life and color once more.

“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”

Jacques Cousteau

How You Can Help

My Plan

"

1: Donate to My Trip

Help fund my 4-week coral restoration internship in Thailand by February 9th.

"

2: Interning in Koh Tao

I’ll train with coral conservation experts and marine biologists, learn restoration methods, and participate in hands-on reef renewal.

N

3: Reefs Continue to Recover

The reefs thrive, coral ecosystems are restored, and we spread awareness about ocean conservation around the world.
